Limit or Stop Apps from Using Your Data to Train AI

Artificial intellegence (AI) has been a promising and rapidly evolving technology, already having benefits in the every-day life.

But AI needs data to train. Lots of data.

Many companies have been leveraging their own user’s data for their AI and other training capabilities. Most include it in their policies, but these policies may evolve and be updated as these companies grow.

Here are tips to learn more, limit or opt out from AI training on popular websites like LinkedIn, Twitter/X ,and PayPal.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn may use your posts to train its AI. To check settings:

  • Log in and click your profile icon
  • Go to Settings > Data privacy > Data for generative AI improvement.

PayPal

PayPal may use spending behavior to better target ads to you. To modify this:

  • Log in on the website or app.
  • Go to your Profile/ Settings > Data and Privacy > Personalized shopping.

Twitter/X

Twitter/X may share data with third party collaborators for AI training purposes. To modify:

  • When signed in, go to Settings > Privacy and safety
  • Choose “Data sharing with business partners” under “Data sharing and personalization”

Many websites may still use your data to train their own AI with no opt-out option, such as Meta. It is best check your regular services’ settings to make sure you have settings enabled that you want, and review any terms and policies so you are aware of any additional data sharing.
