What Is Sysinternals Utilities and How to Use

Sysinternals is a collection of free software tools by Microsoft to manage and troubleshoot Windows (and Linux) computers.

The suite comes packaged with the applications as a ZIP file on the Windows official website. Each tool can also be downloaded separately, in case you only want to use a specific one. It’s great for technicians or advancing user to better manage their machine(s).

The Sysinternals utility toolkit includes advanced software including:

  • Process Explorer (a deeper Task Manager)
  • Process Monitor (in-depth monitoring of live application tasks)
  • Autoruns (deeper config of startup processes and applications
  • DiskView (disk utility tool to graphically see your disk’s volume sector by sector
  • RootkitRevealer (an advanced rootkit infection detection tool
  • PS Tools (a command line suite for management of Windows environments)
  • AD Explorer – (advanced Active Directory (AD) viewer and editor tool
  • SDelete – (securely deletes important data and wipe free space of possible previous data leftovers)
